CLASH OF THE TITANS -
BATTLE OF TWO
WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONS
The United States Chess Federation has announced a six-game Clash of The Titans - Chess Battle between 7-time World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov and 4-time Women's World Champion Susan Polgar.
The Battle of two World Champions will be held in Lindsborg (KS), 2004 USCF City of the Year, on September 18-19, 2004 in 6 exciting matches with 2 Rapid games at the time control of 25 minutes with 5 second delay, 2 Blitz games at the time control of 5 minutes, and 2 Fischer Random games at the time control of 15 minutes.
Game schedule: 09/18 - 5:00 pm
09/19 - 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm
The Battle will take place at the Smoky Valley High/Middle School Auditorium. Tickets are available at the Karpov Chess School (adults - $15; scholastic - $10; scholastic chess players at the Champions Cup - free). The Parade's King (Karpov) and Queen (Polgar) will lead a group of scholastic teams, local area marching bands, and top US Chess Players (Krush, Zatonskih, Shulman, Charbonneau). All teams should be dressed with their chess team T-shirts.
11:00 - Opening ceremony downtown Lindsborg
11:30 - 12:15 Press-conference for Karpov and Polgar
11:30 - Round 2
12:30 - 1:00 Lunch
1:00 - Round 3
2:15 - Round 4
3:30 - Round 5
5:00 - Games 1 & 2 for Karpov - Polgar match
6:00 - Closing ceremony for the scholastic tournament
7:00 - Dinner with GM Karpov and GM Polgar as guest speakers
During the day (1:00 - 5:00 pm) 8 Grandmasters will be given Master classes for ALL kids who can attend (no extra charge)
1:00 - Games 3 & 4 for Karpov – Polgar match
4:00 - Games 5 & 6 for Karpov – Polgar match
6:00 - Closing ceremony for Karpov – Polgar match
